8/3/08: Regional race in Taft, CA. We drove straight from camping up in the sierras all the way down to Taft, which is by Bakersfield. That was a long trip, about a little over 300 miles one way.....OUCH on the gas and the time in the RV with 2 kids. Thank goodness for the new books I am reading. So Justin raced Friday, and Saturday. Friday night he was the only 6 yr old rookie, so they put him in the 6 yr old novice class, and he whooped them all, and took first place!!!! We were so excited, and so was Justin. I think he was a little shocked. He was so proud of himself. And of course so were we. Daddy was so excited that he could barely contain himself. He is so proud of Justin. So then Saturday he raced a total of 8 races, which was ALOT. And not to mention that is was like 105 degrees down there. It was really too much for the little kids. So the first set of races he took 2nd overall, and then the second set of races, Jason moved him up to the novice class, and he took 3rd over all. We could really tell that he was REALLY tired. He actually felt sick after the 5th race. So we had him rest for a bit. Then we was fine. It was a long day for him, and HOT, HOT, HOT!!!! I can't say that enough. I was not happy, and I ran the generator the whole time with the A/C on. I didn't care one bit of the gas it was using and the cost of gas. When you are that hot, gas could have been $8 a gallon and I still would have used it for 2 days straight. So I think the next Taft race we go to will be the ones in the winter time. At least for me anyways. Lauren had a great time, as usual. She makes due and keeps herself occupied for the most part. Ours friends brought her a big bag of Polly Pockets. And she played with those the whole time there and pretty much the whole trip home. That was great. The kids finally fell a sleep on the way home, but not until we were just about there, figures huh!!!!
Lauren rode her bike around at night, and Justin rode around with his new friends. It was fun.
The pictures above of Justin, he is the second one in with the silver helmet. These pictures are taken at the starting gate. He gets so serious when he is up there getting ready to race. He is so good at this.
The next 4 big races are coming up in the next two months, so we have some planning to do. I will keep you all posted with the latest pictures from his next races.
